Enhancing surface quality in cutting of gummy metals using nanoscale organic films

نویسندگان

چکیده

A macroscopic ductile-to-brittle transition in chip formation with ductile gummy metals, arising from 3.5 to 100 nm thick organic films on the workpiece surface, is demonstrated. The principal characteristics of phenomenon, annealed aluminum, are change flow mode one dominated by large-strain plasticity controlled fracture; and up 70% reduction cutting force. This embrittlement has important benefits for machined surface quality – nearly an order magnitude roughness, > 50% residual plastic strain, smaller hardness change. Implications phenomenon material removal processes beyond discussed.

Nanoscale Domain Stability in Organic Monolayers on Metals

Certain organic molecules, such as alkanethiols, can adsorb on metals to form monolayers. Sometimes domains appear in the monolayers. For example, an incomplete monolayer may form islands, and a mixed-composition monolayer may separate into distinct phases. During annealing, molecules diffuse on the metal surface. The domain boundary energy drives the domains to coarsen. The contact potential b...

Surface Quality Finish in Laser Cutting Using Taguchi Design

Original scientific paper The present work aims at obtaining parametric combination to achieve the best surface finish and assess effects of selected process parameters on a laser cut quality for laser cutting. This helps to study the variation in response parameter (Ra value) for various levels of selected process parameters. In the present work mild steel specimen is used and the effect of th...

Electrochemistry of nanoscale DNA surface films on carbon.

A DNA electrochemical biosensor is an integrated receptor-transducer device. The most important step in the development and manufacture of a sensitive DNA-biosensor for the detection of DNA-drug interactions is the immobilization procedure of the nucleic acid probe on the transducer surface. Magnetic A/C Mode atomic force microscopy (MAC Mode AFM) images in air were used to characterize two dif...
